Abstract: The thesis project is titled Socially Sustainable Co-housing in Gurgaon, Haryana. In the present day, there is an increasing pressure on land as a building construction resource. Patterns of increasing migration into the urban areas have led to rapid construction of mass housing buildings, without much heed being given to the changing types and the living requirements of the new urban population. The aim of the project is to provide an interactive living environment for people of wide cultural backgrounds and household types. One of the ways in which this might be achieved is called Co-Housing, a way of living that promotes common and practical social activities amongst its inhabitants. In such a housing, there is a smaller area allotted to the private dwelling and common areas are prioritized. These may include spaces like kitchens, working spaces, workshops, open areas, laundry rooms, etc. Another added benefit of this kind of housing is that the cost of the commonly used services becomes shared. The thesis would be an attempt to explore how we can rethink the aspect of socially integrating urban housing environments
