Abstract: India Habitat Centre is a multipurpose building mixing work, commercial and social spaces. The typology of office cum other facilities combined in one is a successful combination in Delhi which HUDCO wants to replicate in some other cities as well. Gurgaon sector 29 is one of the sites selected. This report aims to explore and study planning and designing of mix use building(institutional as well as commercial). A detail survey of site and its surroundings is included showing all the details necessary to be kept in mind while designing. Study further progresses with the live case studies of institutional buildings: India Habitat Centre, New Delhi; India International Centre, New Delhi; Paryawas Bhavan, Bhopal and literature case study of San Diego Convention Centre. One of the basic aim of this study is to study the concepts and standards required in the design of multi functional institutional cum commercial building .The distribution of mass, creation of covered, semi-covered and open courtyards have been used in these buildings .The study also includes the comparative analysis of different case studies in terms of areas assigned to different facilities and services. The Report concludes with the inferences drawn from designing of the building with concept development and detail design discussed.
