Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to examine how university-level management programs throughout the country are teaching, utilizing, and confronting the new and developing management ideologies. Examined in this research is how the tradition of delivering excellence and aim of the institution to prepare the world’s most elite and efficient managers who will lead different sections of Indian economy, connotes a profound symbolism. Thus it has become vital for us to recognize the need to provide the necessary infrastructure for its beneficial and befitting functioning. It is as part of such a program in which the INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT has been proposed. This building shall act as a nodal point for imparting quality education in the field of management. It shall provide necessary infrastructure for holding conferences as well as providing for teaching facilities for training of new professionals in the field. The topography of the site however poses many challenges in terms of infrastructural planning and services layout the climatic conditions being hot and dry and the rocky strata with little top soil impedes growth of any vegetation on site. This calls for a landscape remedy which can sustain the odds of climate and add to the value of experience within built environment. The design programme includes architectural design and structures for the academic block and administrative block, library, and site layout for faculty and staff housing, students’ hostels, ancillary buildings like stores, the campus shopping centre. Also a detailed site plan with layouts for infrastructure, roads, utilities, landscape, services etc, zoning and phasing to ensure built- in flexibility to accommodate the foreseeable future technical advances and land acquisitions. For the above purpose, Indian Institute of Management has been proposed at village Balicha on the Udaipur- Ahmedabad Expressway on the outskirts of the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan on a 290 acres site.
