State of art - building for khadi and village industry board, Bhubaneswar, Odisha

Abstract

―I believe that where there is pure and active love for the poor there is God also. I see God in every thread that I draw on the spinning wheel.‖ Mahatma Gandhi (Young India, 20-5-1926) The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the institutional building runs and how its environment is created. As Khadi and village industry board contains the institutional as well as retail area to promote Khadi and village industry. In the rapidly changing contemporary world, institutions are undergoing profound changes in their scope, functions and organizations and are in the process of rapid evolution. Their task is being no longer to the two traditional functions of being a work centre. They assuming new functions and older ones are increasing in range, depth and complexity. Thus for the infrastructure of Khadi in Odisha there is a need of administrative building to develop the khadi and village industry. This building shall act as a nodal point for the idea of Khadi and convey the Ghandi ‗an message of development of rural. It shall provide the necessary infrastructure for holding of conference as well as providing for retail and exhibition of tribal and village industry product. This building shall act as an Official and retail building for Khadi and village Industry. It shall provide the necessary infrastructure for holding of conference as well as providing retail and commercial development of industry. This building shall also act as a forum to encourage and interest more people in Khadi and village industry. Apart from office the office campus shall also in-house the retail and exhibition area and extensive bank for providing infrastructure and development of Khadi and village industry. Last but not least the building is -To create a landmark, to blend traditional and contemporary features seamlessly, to create a vibrant cultural public space, with due impetus to various forms of art and craft. To create a thriving economic zone, to maximize ecological sensitivity in the same manner as craft traditions do For the above purpose it is proposed a State of Art – Khadi and Village industries board building in Kherbela nagar, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha on a 4.5 acres site
