The project is about building a commercial complex in the heart of the city of Patna, the capital of Bihar. The project falls under the smart city mission and will include facilities like retail shops, hypermarkets, restaurant, food court, multiplex, public spaces etc. The project has been designed keeping in mind the passive energy efficiency strategies and open public spaces in contemporary commercial spaces. The background study includes the study done on energy efficiency techniques suitable for this particular context and to study the literature to know about the historical evolution of commercial spaces. Also literature case study of some of the well known commercial projects like City centre mall, Kolkata; Forum mall, Hyderabad; Mauryalok complex, Patna has been carried out. The significant features of the project includes the amalgamation of aesthetics and passive energy efficiency techniques & energy saving materials to minimize the energy consumption in building. An effort has also been put to use different kinds of recreational amenities and open spaces to enhance the experience of the people coming to this complex which would benefit their health too. The design process for the project started with the background studies and a critical site analysis which provided the path for project to start & proceed. Then more literature review has been done for the appropriate case studies and data. After these studies different concepts has been developed with respect to the context of the project and the planning process started. The grids were defined and the spaces started to come out. The existing vegetation was also given priority with only 1 major tree being transplanted with the rest being retained at their position. An effort was also put to design out spaces in manner that recreational spaces go hand in hand with the other spaces to give the users a holistic shopping experience. At last my conclusion would be that I tried to use my knowledge & learning to the best in designing this project and it may have some shortcomings which would become my learning as a part of the process.en_US
