Abstract: To suggest guidelines for developing planning parameters for housing in slum so as to prevent haphazard development and provide uniformity in various government interventions (schemes) and started thesis with general understanding of Key terminology of planning parameters for housing in slum such as slum and planning parameter ( plot size, carpet area, FAR, number of floors, setback, road width open spaces and parking space ,understand slums distinct definition international (United Nations agency UN habitat: international) “a slum is an area that combines the following characteristics: inadequate access to safe water; inadequate access to sanitation and other infrastructure ;poor structural quality of housing ;overcrowding and insecure residential status” (UH-habitat 2007)“a slum household as a group of individuals living under the same roof in an urban area that lacks one or more of the following(1) durable housing of a permanent nature that protects against extreme climate conditions (2) sufficient living space which means not more than three people sharing the same room (3) easy access to safe water in sufficient amounts at an affordable price (4) access to adequate sanitation in the form of a private or public toilets shared by a reasonable number of people.(5) security of tenure that prevents forced evictions “and national slum definitions (national sample survey organization (2003) “a slum as a compact settlement with a collection of poorly built tenements ,mostly of temporary nature, crowded together usually with inadequate sanitary and drinking water facilities in unhygienic conditions”, (Census of India) A compact area of at least 300 population or about 60-70 households of poorly built congested tenements, in unhygienic environment usually with inadequate infrastructure and lacking in proper sanitary and drinking water facilities, (Dr Pronab sen committee for Rajeev awas yojana) 2011 “a slum is a compact settlements of at least 20 household with a collection of poorly built tenements ,mostly of temporary nature, crowded together usually with inadequate sanitary and drinking water facilities in unhygienic conditions” from all this national and international definitions considered definition (Dr Pronab sen committee for Rajeev awas yojana slum is a compact settlements of at least 20 household.
