Abstract: Wellness resorts, in essence, are meant to compliment the site and build on its the stronger features while being extremely cautious of how certain design and construction decisions are going to have an ecological impact in the life span of the project. The last two decades have seen an upward shift in the contribution that Wellness tourism makes under the tourism umbrella. This fast-paced growth in the industry has borne a paradox between the idea of wellness resort and the effects of its execution in the larger scheme of things. The nature of such a project’s typology often relies on an ecologically sensitive patch of land and acting responsibly towards it and at the same time relying on secondary low impact construction technologies and materials for a lower carbon footprint for instance, incorporating local materials, building along a contour etc. The project also draws inspiration from local architecture of the region. This thesis focuses on how architecture can bridge the gap or enhance the human and nature bond thereby provide a healing environment. The design uses nature as a therapy through. The project explores the role of built environment in therapy. help establish a standard for the execution of future projects and pave way for more ecologically considerate designs as a step towards sustainable wellness tourism.
