dc.description.abstract | Skyscrapers are very tall, multi-storeyed buildings. The name first came into use during the 1880s, shortly after the first skyscrapers were built, in the United States. The development of skyscrapers came as a result of the coincidence of several technological and social developments. The term skyscraper originally applied to buildings of 10 to 20 stories, but by the late 20th century the term was used to describe high-rise buildings of unusual height, generally greater than 40 or 50 stories. Modern skyscrapers are built with steel or reinforced concrete frameworks and curtain walls of glass or polished stone. They utilize mechanical equipment such as water pumps and elevators. From the 1930s onwards, skyscrapers began to appear around the world - also in Latin America and in Asia In the given context of Delhi, there has been too much of horizontal growth towards Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. With the given condition of land shortage and too much of widespread growth, there is a need for vertical development and which means there is a need for high rise construction. The concerned design proposal here aims at creating an iconic residential tower for Wave City Centre, Noida which will be the tallest structure in Northern India. The tower design here not only concentrates on robust and efficient space planning, but also on the aesthetic values and modern engineering which make it a technological marvel. The design idea revolves around the concept of aerodynamics from which cues have been taken for form development, stability and the wind flows around the building. | en_US |
