Abstract: A residential School is a place where students as well as administrators study/work and live together along with their fellow students and teachers or administrators in one campus. People come from different places, background or community to work or study and become a productive and contributing members of the community in which they live. So the vision of the design of this campus and building should be healthy and close to nature through lifelong learners. The thesis project, Jhargram Residential School, Jhargram is a type of community based residential school run by the mutual funding of the state government and the Ministry of Tribal affairs, governments of India. The main philosophy behind this kind of Residential School building design should have the potential to inspire the local people to evolve or to improve their life style in positive way. These people are more close to the nature and know its value also so the climate responsive designs, techniques for minimum construction costs or methods of functional planning or designing inspired by vernacular architecture should be the fundamental conceptual evolutions. Wet and dry tropical climate zone is local climate in which the building should be self sufficient to achieve the maximum profit and minimum loss of that particular climate effect with the minimum uses of active techniques in design and also in maintenances which can save some energy and also create a healthy and inspiring environment in school. Every student, employee, workers, guests should experience the safe, natural and healthy living environment with which they can connect and identify themselves and which can motivate and support the personal, social, mental and spiritual growth of its residents. Addition of simple and creative design techniques, selection of best possible methods which can lower the operating cost of the building and environmental effect and also can teach students about the importance of nature, saving energy and take a the participation of students will obviously change the attitudes towards the boarding schools
