Nowadays, cities were confronted with serious problems e.g. traffic congestion, air pollution, lack of open space, urban sprawl and segregation of community. Transit Oriented Development is believed as one promising concept to overcome the urban problems through encouraging land use and transportation integration. However, different interpretations of the concept lead to difficulties of conducting TOD planning. This study believed that TOD planning should be preceded by understanding the existing condition through measurement of current traffic and urban form parameters. Transit node plays central role in TOD. Therefore, the measurement of TOD level around the existing nodes is inevitable. The core area of TOD was defined as 800 meters (10 minutes) walking distance. This study focused on this area of walking distance from Transit Stop. This study applied TOD design principles of land use and accessibility in the region of Proposed South Metro Railway corridor in the city of Lucknow. The area comprises of 5 continuous metro stations with a study area radius of 800 meters (standard zone) around each metro station. Parameters and criteria were defined based upon the important aspects of TOD. The parameters were divided into qualitative and quantitative parameters. Three dimensional modeling has been done along with the traffic studies to understand the urban characteristics as well as the importance of the corridor. Geographic Information System (GIS) platform was used to map all types of mapping showing the spatial characteristics of the area. To understand the nature of traffic on the node traffic volume count survey was conducted at four different points on the node. To understand the trip behavior and choice of mode house hold survey for Origin & Destination was also conducted. The outcome of the study was a detailed land use analysis along with traffic data analysis and upcoming potential ridership. Existing built up scenario analysis through3D modelling. Through this analysis all the quantitative and qualitative parameters were addressed and by analyzing current practices for TOD in other cities for Indian context proposals were given with partial interventions in urban form and land use (FAR, density, mixed land use, street design & multimodal interface conflict solution).en_US
