Abstract: The various magnificent craft forms of India are cherished and are in high demand everywhere, but the artisans who produce these wonderful items and reside in remote rural areas are deprived of the proportionate profits because a major part of the profit is cornered by the middlemen. The lack of proper marketing facilities and weak financial conditions of artisans force them to deal with the middlemen who take advantage of their position. The artisans are still in a very poor condition and remain the under privileged class of the society. For this reason, promotion and sustenance of crafts through an integrated development is necessary. The establishment of Crafts Revival Centre, Ajmer is an initiative taken under Babasaheb Ambedkar Hastashilpa Vikas Yojana (BAHVY) scheme by Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles. It is training cum showcase center for the craftsmen of the Gota Zari Lace Cluster, Ajmer. The craft of making gota zari laces which are put up on the bridal dresses is an age old tradition practiced in Ajmer from the times of nobles and kings. The center will provide a permanent platform for bringing together the urban populace and craft communities. It will provide a platform to the craftsmen to showcase their craft to the trade merchants from all over the country as well as the local urban consumers.
