Abstract: Architects have a fair share in addressing the issue of energy crisis by designing ethically. The first step of this ethical design process is the use of the age old passive design techniques, which reduce the energy demand of any building in the first place. Secondly, the design must be a resultant of the parameters governing the existing ecology of the site. Last but not least, the design must be in accordance with the major usage aspects of the future users. In my thesis project, Central Agriculture University, Jhansi, I have used the key passive design strategies for natural lighting and cooling of the buildings situated in a composite climatic zone. I have attempted to integrate the climatic parameters and the site level parameters to generate a common language for the built and the open spaces constituting the university. I have also attempted to integrate the spatial aspects of the core areas of the university, constituting the Administrative area, Academic area, the Central library and the refreshment area, all distributed throughout the central landscape of the university campus.
