Abstract: | About 20 million Indians and people among other Nationalities live in the National Capital. This institution, the proposed Cultural Centre is modelled on the Local Library and the Conventions Centre that is supposed to come up within the Peripheries of the proposed site. My thorough aim during the design of this cultural centre was to bridge the gap between local people and their everyday livelihood. They could take their time out from tension and misunderstanding and be a place such as this. Also, this can be a centre for expression of thoughts, as well as being a political theatre that Delhi is, if needed. The program elements would accommodate education and performance of music, visual arts, traditional crafts, dance and literature. This Centre would celebrate local culture both by observing traditional festivals and occasions and through opportunities for research. Such an institution would require a variety of spaces including class rooms, meeting rooms, a seminars, and a library, all of which should reflect India’s capital’s local culture and history. In beginning to research these topics, I did not find sufficiently enough “true and local” resources because what it meant to be in Delhi had multiple interpretations. So I found it necessary to travel to other parts of India as part of my reverse thesis, to know what the culture meant like. This thesis is a testimony to whatever little or more I have learnt and I promise to endeavour towards the path that I have finally found. |
