Abstract: | India is considered as a land of diverse cultures and incredible form of arts, performing arts, religions and rituals, variant languages the degree of variety varies from place to place, from people to people, and it also evolve with time. It’s a quite interesting to study these interlinks between people, their culture and place. As each place will have certain elements of culture which will somewhere add to their uniqueness, and which will reflect into the culture or the way of life of a person or a community. These art forms are also responsible for the development and evolution of entire community as the theatre becomes a medium to bring entire community under one roof and the awareness, sensitiveness, belongingness and notional belief can be set among the entire community. The performance is govern within or with a space, where one performs and another appreciates, which is also explained in Natyashastra as the description of a playhouse. The space enhance the quality of a play. Indian theatre is multi-cultural and multi-lingual and will not fit into neat western categories. It is a composite mixtures of many traditions of folk performances, it has various impacts of changing scenarios in country. Over the centuries Indian theatres had undergone various impact such as changing political scenarios, influencing form the other form of arts, imitation or depiction of various sacred compilations and epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata. The interpretation of various characters which form the story of theatres also changes with the people, place and time. In a way the uniqueness of Indian theatre lies in its interesting and distinctive subjects which are are extensively vast as it reflects issues, activities, endeavours and events ranging from communities to the individuals that to vary from religion to religion, place to place and belief to belief The theatre practice and space shares an intangible connection, which is maintain since years ago, the connection is maintained through social and traditional practises of communities. The thesis aims to study and document the types of theatres associated to the Marathi Sangeet Natak of Maharashtra. It aims in studying the evolution and transformation of each theatre space and attempts to map the current condition.Content |
