Abstract

Hyderabad metropolitan development authority building acts as the control body of the entire city development progression, thus enabling a pavement towards sustainable and planned development. It is responsible for controlling and organizing the city in various fields like planning, design, services and all other amenities. The city development authority buildings primarily evolved from the town centers in the ancient period which were active bodies which used to deal with a town or even smaller space which used to be active in organizing and functioning in smaller levels. The current city development authority building exist to take the authorities in to next level and are considered to be the top functioning body in city level and it even houses the city mayor and it acts as an iconic landmark either through its form or its function. The city development authority building plays a vital role in the orderly-yet-rapid development of city keeping the rising population and their subsequent needs. The concept for the city development authority building comes from three various factors i.e. site context, climatic considerations and the philosophical ideology. The concept involves the intrusion of ‘Rock’, ‘Authority’ which shapes the physical form of the building. The main objectives of this thesis are to address the present site features and the climatic conditions of the region, refer certain case studies and analyze similar existing spaces, understand the various standards, norms and bye-laws related to such project and finally derive a comprehensive design. An advanced objective was also done to understand the details of structural system for space frame and curtain glazing systems used in the design.
