Abstract: Orange production in Tamenglong Dist. accounts to more than eighty percent of orange production in Manipur. Orange is a citrus fruit which generally grows in the tropical region of the globe. The favourable climate of cultivation of orange is 800-1500m above sea level.This sweet juicy fruit is suitably cultivated in the slope hill areas of the district which spread over 50 villages and more so. Orange is grown as a good source of income to the farmers that a farmer could earn about Rs. 1 lakh to 3 lakhs annually. It is a lucrative cash crop for the people of Tamenglong and out of this a sustainable economy is built. Tamenglong is known as land of oranges and Tamenglong District alone could produce more than 80% of its state production. Oranges were riped and harvested in the month of Dec-Feb of the year. If one travel to the villages by this time we can see orange trees bearing with beautiful riped nearly round yellowish juicy fruits which adds a scenic beauty to the village landscape.
